Upcoming events in Kansas City

Designed by Sarah Anderson

I don’t know about you, but I adore spring in Kansas City. Warmer weather, blossoming trees, and so many events/happy hours/things to do that I find myself clutching my planner as if it’s a lifeline.

I thought I’d check in and let you know of a few upcoming events. I’d love to see you there!

*The traveling cocktail club returns on Thursday, this time to celebrate the deliciously refreshing art of the mint julep at Maker’s Mark. I hear they’re bringing an entire cart of fresh mint AND breaking out the fancy silver glasses, so cocktail connoisseurs, this is not to be missed!

*Like bingo? Like drag queens? Then you’ll loooove Bingo for Charity at Hamburger Mary’s starting at 7 p.m. next Tuesday. This is an official Yelp community event, so come out to meet fellow Yelpers and Kansas City’s recently appointed community manager, Joi Brozek.

*The lovely ladies of Quirk {the magazine} are hosting the Issue 2 launch party next Friday at Nara [official invitation pictured above.] A mere $5 cover gets you in the door for food, drinks and the audio stylings of DJ Kid Twist.

*At the end of the month, join Kansas City authors Whitney Terrell, Candice Millard, Patrick Dobson, Clancy Martin and Shirley Christian for Kansas City Writes, an evening of discussion and readings hosted by Present magazine. Admission is free.

KC Agenda: Jan/Feb 2010

Happy New Year, Kansas City!!

It’s been a cold, snowy couple weeks, hasn’t it? I can’t say I’m all that impressed with snow removal in downtown KC, but I’m fortunate enough to be able to work from home during inclement weather, so I’m doing my best to stay warm and toasty.

I owe you a couple of posts, including a recap of my local pre-holiday shopping extravaganza, but I wanted to drop in and let you know what’s on my radar for this month. Although January is typically slow and just a wee bit dull, upcoming events prove that Kansas City knows how to start a year off right.

So, just between you and me? I love food. A lot. Although I’m taking Fergie’s advice and am “up in the gym just workin’ on my fitness,” I’ll also be circulating some of KC’s best restaurants during a week-long dining celebration. And because I love a good party, I’ll fork over the money for a ticket to one of the Nelson-Atkins’ biggest events of the year, even though it poses the toughest question of all: What will I wear?

Don’t fret, my dears — January doesn’t get to have all the fun. Start February off right with some mental and visual stimulation courtesy of KC-area designers, a week that includes challenges, lectures, casual gatherings, a scavenger hunt and one heck of a wrap party.

Hope to see you out and about! And until then, stay warm!
