Nice to meet you!

I’m Katy, also known on this blog as “girl about KC.” My intense love of all things Kansas City has led me to a successful career as a magazine editor and freelance writer, five years of professional writing that, next spring, will see my greatest accomplishment to date: the publication of a first-edition Kansas City guidebook.

Until then, consider my blog your source for all things Kansas City, whether it’s drinking, dining, entertainment, people to know or quirky, hard-to-find spots that are worth the discovery. The blog is a continuous love letter to a city that’s so much more than a “Cowtown,” and I invite you to join me in an exploration of the best Kansas City has to offer.

  1. Congrats Katy. Looking forward to seeing you in Brookside, with camera.

    • And wouldn’t you know I found myself in Brookside last Friday, camera-less?? I suppose with the gray, dreary weather, that’s not such a bad thing, but I’m certainly not going to wait for the spring thaw to post another “Street scenes” installment! This is a situation that calls for warm clothes and fingerless gloves!

  2. Well don’t venture camera-less into the West Bottoms or you’ll really regret it! The area never looks the same twice. waves & grins

    • Waving right back to you! And no kidding about the West Bottoms. It’s one of my favorite areas in KC – so much untapped potential! Think it will be next on the list for a lil’ urban renewal?

  3. Katy,
I schedule programming at the North Kansas City Library and I would like to get local authors in to talk about their books. I’d love to have you in to talk about your travel book, if you would be interested.

    • Hi Stacy —

I would love to come to the North Kansas City Library to talk about Moon Kansas City! Thank you so much for the opportunity! Please feel free to email me at katywrites[at]gmail[dot]com and I’ll be happy to discuss available dates and answer any questions you may have about the book. Thanks again!!

  4. Katy,

I wanted to send you a reminder that the program on local travel is this Thursday @ 7 pm @ NKC.

  5. Katy…I love this site…I’m gonna put you on my blogroll at mrkcmortgage.wordpress if you don’t mind…

  6. Hi Katy,
Hope you are well! I work with an advertising agency as a researcher. And I am looking to meet with women of Kansas City to learn about “what women want” in terms of life, your values & experiences, shopping and from the things you buy. I will be in town from Friday to Sunday and would love the chance to meet with you and get your take on all things KC and what you love about life & shopping. If you would like to invite some of your girlfriends and all of us can go grab coffee that would be great!

Ps I know how random this sounds! And my apologies in advance!

    Thanks much
    Lauren

    • Hi Lauren! I’m so glad you found my site. Your job sounds fascinating! I have a crazy schedule this weekend, but is there any way I could help give you feedback via e-mail? I didn’t know if you had a set of questions you’ve prepared in advance. If there’s anything I can do, give me a shout: katywrites[at]gmail[dot]com. Safe travels to KC – we’re happy to have you!

  7. Hi Katy,
I was wondering if you ever introduce local authors on your blog. I’ve self published two ebooks, “Manifesting Daddy” and “Clutter”. They’re both available at barnesandnoble.com, amazon.com and other online outlets. You would describe my work as raw, edgy women’s fiction. You can learn more about me at my website. I also have author profiles on Goodreads, Amazon and Shelfari. If you would be willing to feature or review one of my books I would be thrilled. Or you could send me some questions for an author interview, which always make easy blog posts. Let me know if you’re interested. Thanks.
    Donna
